INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING EMBOSSALL . . .
As always in the past and currently when making a counter die for embossing, and foil embossing, i.e. a matching mate counter part for the female engraving. First, you will need a baseboard that should be of a vulcanized board or fish paperboard, i.e. a hard, porous paper material. Phoenolic board is also an option.
Note: As in any counter die preparation, make sure the press is level and that all sides of the die are hitting evenly for pressure. This can be checked by hitting a blank letterhead and inspecting for even pressure.
Read and select desired impression material to specification of "Working Time" and "Set Time".
"Work Time": The amount of time able to spread putty before closing press.
"Set Time": The amount of time it takes to completely cure.
With heat is an option, it will cause putty to harden faster, but do not exceed 150º F until the putty is set. EMBOSSALL will work without heat to help fit registering to ink.
The board should be exactly where needed as for contact with die or engraving. Grey or red board, etc...
Scuff up the surface with sand paper or a razor blade to create a cross pattern that will allow the putty to adhere better to the surface.
Apply adhesive "A-Link"
to base board only in the area that the counter shall be needed. Let dry
while preparing the application gun.
*A-Link is specially formulated to adhere EMBOSSALL due to its silicone
properties.
Preparing Application Gun: (dispenser)
A) Load cartridge into gun
B) Remove previous tip, or, on a new cartridge, remove cap.
C) Replace with new tip. Do not pull trigger until ready to use, as the
tip can only be used once.
Prepare a Mylar (thin recommended) to cover entire baseboard.
Apply putty in the area(s) needed, cover with Mylar. Then close press to TOP DEAD CENTER, before "Work Time" is up, allowing total impression.
"Set Time" varies with the different putties as follows:
"EMBOSSALL Fast Set" 20 seconds "Work Time", 50 seconds "Set Time"
"EMBOSSALL Standard" 4 1/2 minutes "Work Time", 7 1/2 minutes "Set Time"
* Do not remove tip until next use, it will keep the cartridge sealed.
After allowing "Set Time" open press and remove Mylar, trim excess and unwanted dead area with a knife and scrap off with a scrapper.
Cover with gummed paper, hit one impression then remove some pressure from under the plate of the press to compensate for a cover. i.e. use an 8-10 point smooth, uncoated cover stock. Spot as needed under cover sheet, or plate, if possible.
* Cover stock should be equivalent to the amount of pressure removed from under the plate.
TIPS
The A-Link is not a product of EMBOSSALL, but it is a must to adhere EMBOSSALL to your make-ready board.
A Shop Vacuum works great for cleaning up the excess.
EMBOSSALL cuts so easily it is very important to not cut the image.
If you do accidently cut into the image, it can be repaired by applying A-Link to the specific area and then apply EMBOSSALL and close press to TOP DEAD CENTER.
If you apply the A-Link to the board only in the area where the image will be it makes it easier to trim around the image.
